Is this Dutch fastest train?

You can see Koploper/ICM's around Amersfoort quite frequently. They are mostly used at the Intercity trains through north or the east or in some shorter services like Amsterdam-Almere.

I used to work on the long-haul trains in Norway as a Rail Attendant, selling snacks and food in the bistro, drinks trolley service and complimentary meals in Premium class on the then-new Signatur trains (2000-2005). I also worked on these train sets you travelled on. Great job it was, and I'm happy to see that VY are trying to up the quality of the travel experience. As always, great trip report from you 🙂

Night train sleeping is something I can't get used to and can't recommend for anyone. ALWAYS take an eye mask and ear plugs. The noise on all night trains is as loud as day trains. At every stop, people/workers outside the windows on the platforms, the doors opening and closing (beeping and slamming sounds) workers and new passengers constantly marching up and down the aisles, workers knocking on new passenger's doors, the rattling, the harsh rocking from the fast back and forth of the fast-moving train.... All of these things do not make for a good sleep. I don't know if the new night jet has fully light blocking window shades, but if you are in a sitting car, the constant flashing of the passing lights that line the train tracks acts as a very powerful strobe light that was never able to be fulling blocked by the shades. It's maddening. Hopefully this has changed.

Thing is transportation does not have to be pleasing to the eyes what matters is its practically from getting people to A - B. It has no other purpose and will become increasingly relevant as time goes on that's if we stop wasting our time with vanity projects like electric cars and focus on something that can deliver massive benefits, a well connected tram, bus, train system works WELL especially for country's the size of the Benelux nations, uk, ireland etc as Japan has proven with its extensive transport network. (Tbh only good thing that has rly came out of modern Japan)

Talgo recently hasnt been getting a good reputation for ride quality, other riders have been complaining about the bumps and rattles on the new Avril sets now running between Madrid and the North. One video looked more like plane turbulence! Hopefully the fixed standard gauge Avril variants ride better.

Speaking of gauge-changing trains, it's too bad that JR Kyushu abandoned this concept for Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen to Nagasaki...then we would already have a transfer-free service from Osaka, rather than waiting for Saga Prefecture to agree paying for the construction of the remaining section.

The WiFi is always poor …when it works. The hand driers never dry your hands and if you need a number two it’s advised to bring your own toilet paper with you. But the trains run on time. Pretty much get you anywhere and are not expensive. And if you have an OV chipcard subscription like me it’s weekend free travel anywhere and forty percent saving during the week off peak. Plus same card is for any bus, metro, tram or another train company like Blauwnet in the east. And living here for twenty years I’d advise not trying to sound Dutch when you try to say Haarlem or Amsterdam Centraal 😂 . That’s not how you say Haarlem 😂😂

In Spain that train is not sold as a high-speed train...it is an alvia. The only high-speed train that changes gauge is the new Avril.
